Going after what you desire has utility.

Your body runs off chemistry. And the people who win are the ones who can balance delayed gratification with following their desires.

Delayed gratification is a popular wisdom to apply. And it’s important. It’s the skill that enables us to invest in ourselves and our future. But often the most ambitious people are more than willing to delay gratification for success.

Those people often don’t succeed. They shrink into shells of the people they could become. Because though delaying gratification is an important skill, we also have to remember that every time you act on your desire, your body produces chemicals that reinforce to you that you’re a badass.

There is no amount of time between when a lion decided to stand up and when the lion is standing up. The thought and the action are the same.
When we learn to tap into what we want we act with more immediacy. We reinforce to our mind and body that our actions and desires are important. And the more we believe that, the taller we stand, and the more powerful we are.

Delayed gratification is useful.

Immediate action is too.
