If you need to get things done and you’re having trouble getting started it’s often because you aren’t giving yourself enough silence.
If you’re constantly scrolling and unproductive it’s not because you’re lazy or overworked. It’s because you’re overstimulated, afraid of your own mind, and undisciplined.
And you have to be willing to shut down the stimulation long enough for you to be able to think if you want to get anything done.
You’re often willing to do the work but you’re putting yourself in a position where you’re incapable of doing so because you can’t handle the horrible experience of being silent in the company of your own mind.
It’s not the work that’s the problem. It’s the moment that you need to yourself before you start that you’re unwilling to have.
To get the work done you have to put the phone down and sit in silence for long enough to hear your own voice decide that it’s time to get to work.
