There are times when you need to focus on getting a result and times when you need to focus on the process that will get you results.

An example of this would be trying to learn how to play a piece of music versus learning a particular skill on an instrument.

Learning to be skilled at the instrument isn’t the same as learning the specific song, you have to do repetitive exercises and play things that might not be enjoyable but in the end, the skills make it possible for you to play the piece of music you want to play.

But then, there’s also a part of the process where you need to stop working on the fundamentals and actually work on playing the piece of music that you want.

Every skill is like this where there is a specific result you need to work on and a process that goes with it.

And if you only work on one or the other you won’t get better.

But if you’re trying to succeed and you spend part of your time focused on getting results and part of your time on the skills that will help you get those results then you will make progress.
