If you’re wondering how hard you should work out, what diet you should pick, or what other hard thing you should do with your life that will improve it then here’s your answer.
You should pick the strategy that makes it more likely that you will do it again tomorrow.
We hate this idea because it avoids answering the question. We want to know exactly how many reps to pull in the gym or how many
calories we should eat but the thing underneath that we really want is progress.
So to do the thing that makes you more likely to do the thing tomorrow doesn’t give you answers but it provides you with a solution.
Maybe the optimal number of reps in the gym is twelve but it makes you tired and doing nine and leaving gives you the energy to get your work done today and come back tomorrow and do it again. Then do nine.
Because yes you want results.
And shooting towards a perfect set of directions gets you a result. But doing stuff that encourages you to do more stuff makes you make progress that gets you better results over time.
So if you’re trying to figure out what to do, stop asking yourself what will get you the perfect result and start doing the thing that you can do tomorrow and you with beat every person that thinks they’ve come up with the perfect strategy for success and is trying to execute on it. Because this is the perfect strategy for success.
