You rest by getting yourself out of fight or flight mode into a state of recuperation. Technically, it’s called the parasympathetic nervous system. To do this you have to understand what gets your body there. It’s different for different people.
Some people need to play an aggressive sport so that when they lay down to rest they sleep really well. Other people need social time, physical contact, a book, a relaxing walk, a marathon, or an ice bath. It’s very dependent on the person. But it requires a lot of self observation to understand what really triggers you into a resting state.
Most of us aren’t experimental enough in trying different recreational activities to figure out what gets us into our healthiest states of rest.
