If you’re feeling used or tired or stepped on you need to know this.
There is no reason for society not to ask everything of you.
Because if you accept, then society will drain you of everything you have until there’s nothing left. It will have won by harvesting you as a resource.
But if you choose to set boundaries and limit the amount you give when asked, then society will be healthier because you are a part of society and society will then be made up of more people like you.
If you give everything society wins and if you choose to set boundaries society wins.
This isn’t to say a culture couldn’t be wiser and invest in giving back to you when you need it most.
But knowing this can help you understand why you might feel like everything is being asked of you. Because it is. The incentives are aligned so that the answer to the request for everything is a win for society whether the answer is yes or a no.
It’s up to you to set boundaries. Not the world.
