If you’re uncertain you should allow yourself to be seen by the world, and you’re worried because you think it might be selfish, remember that it has nothing to do with whether it’s selfish or not.
You’re doing a service just by showing up.
People need to see others doing things in order to do things themselves.
And by showing your craft, art, expression, or creation to the world you’re enabling others to pursue their creative endeavors by watching and learning from you, even if they’re learning how to not be like you.
Whether or not it’s a selfish act is completely separate from whether or not it’s useful.
That’s personal. And personally, I don’t think selfishly wanting to show off a bit of who you are to the world is all that bad.
Selfishness by itself is not a bad thing. Too much selfishness is. And those are very different things.
So if you want to make something for the world. Go make it. Don’t spend your time debating whether you’re doing the good thing for bad reasons. Go do the good thing to learn how to be better.
