PROCRASTINATION MENTAL MODEL

There are two ways to deal with procrastination.

Try harder or do something smaller.

If you need to dig a hole and you can’t get yourself to do it, you can either decide it’s going to be hard, become more disciplined, and get it done that way. Or you can decide that all you need to do is dig one shovel full of dirt and then do it again.

If you need to go to the gym and do a hard workout, you can either decide you’re going to do the difficult thing because you’re a person who does difficult things, or you can tell yourself that you don’t need to do the hard workout, you just need to get to the gym in the first place.

In reality, you need to use both of these life skills. But if you see them separately, you can figure out when you need to break something down into smaller pieces and when you need to commit to doing something challenging.
