When having a conversation try to establish positive intent and when the other person is struggling to come up with the right words encourage them to say it badly.

Words are tremendously difficult. And talking with someone with the assumption that you have to phrase everything correctly tends to make people struggle with what to say.

But if you show the other person that your goal is to have a good conversation and take on a share of the responsibility to understand what the other person is saying they will usually feel more comfortable speaking. The conversation will be messier, and you’ll make dumb analogies and arguments that don’t make sense, but you’ll both be able to laugh at it, and end up getting far closer to an agreement than if you’d required them to say just the right thing.
