If you want to be powerful then you have to learn to want stuff.
You need to practice wanting something as simple as an enjoyable dinner, an accomplishment for that day, or a kiss on the cheek and learn how to chase after it with a passion until you get it.
Because the exercise of wanting things and getting them makes you have more powerful wants and makes you more capable of getting what you want.
So don’t lay down all of your desires. Don’t sacrifice everything to chase after your long term goal, because the exercise of wanting something today and going after it develops the muscle of accomplishment and makes you capable of accomplishing your long term goals.
