Because the panic of daily life optimizes for good things. It doesn’t optimize lots of good things over time. You have to choose that.
When chasing success, to really get there. You don’t need to discipline yourself into trying to get it. You need to discipline yourself into being healthy enough to get it over the long run.
When chasing anything, you don’t need to discipline yourself into the thing that you want. You need to manage your desire for it so that you pull back enough to remain a functional person.
Chasing everything will destroy you. Pull back enough to give yourself tension and energy and you will be able to shoot forwards towards what you desire and enjoy it when you get there.
